I'm sure the "strategic relationship" Mazda and Ford want to keep is the AAI/Flat Rock Assembly plant where the Mazda 6 and Mustang are built. An additional yet likely lesser "strategic relationship" is the Tribute/Escape assembly plant in Kansas City, the bigger "strategic" part being the Tribute Hybrid part, I bet..."
