On the whole, I think they write fairly balanced pieces in the Hemmings rags...except for a few horrible clinkers (the article they wrote on a Police Spec 880 nearly prompted me to tears, I had been so excited to see them write about it!).
I've been noticing pictures of your LTD for a while. I really like it and I now want one. How much for a V8 like yours and are they common? If I do buy one, I'll have it shipped to Australia and have it converted to right hand drive. We're pretty good at converting here.
Hey, I saw your message about going to Amboy on Rt 66. We stopped there, its a cool place- but also, be sure to check out the world's first McDonalds in San Bernadino, CA. The owner is also the new owner of the entire town of Amboy. My girlfriend has the guy's name. Nice fellow. He's done a bunch of documentary stuff on Rt 66 and is a wealth of info.
i had a fox bodied LTD back in the early 90's. it was an ex Florida Highway Patrol car that came equipped with a 5.0 HO engine and some other special service features. i bought the car to do an epic roadtrip from Florida to Alaska and then the SW US and back to FL. i did 18,093 miles in 9 weeks and 3 days with that car. it performed the trip with three minor issues - alternator shook loose by the ALCAN, ac evaporator died and the heater core failed. great fun otherwise.
